The Charlie Kirk Assassination

I'm so fatigued by the violence of contemporary politics. Like there's been so many calls for retaliatory violence against people who aren't even involved with the Charlie Kirk assassination, and this is to say nothing of the violence that Kirk himself pushed for. I just want this to stop, this stupid, pointless division. We are all humans, we are all people. The American political sphere has lost its connection to the shared humanity of all those involved and I am so tired. We are all pawns of a scheme by powerful men to steal power away from us, and instead of doing literally anything to stop that from happening, we are going after each other.

I've made no secret of how much I hated Charlie Kirk, but I didn't want him to die. I don't want anyone to die. Life is treated like a disposable tool for political games, and I am disgusted. I don't care if you are right, left, center, whatever, we are all human beings, and we must all remember the humanity of the people across the country. It is this denial of our shared humanity that leads to transphobia, homophobia, racism, and all the other things that Charlie Kirk made a career out of perpetuating, and now that very same system of dehumanization has cost him his life. I am not happy that he is dead, in fact I am very sad that he is dead, as I would be if anyone died. Death is never something to revel in, and consider if your revelry in the death of another person indicates how far you have allowed yourself to be sucked into the cycle of dehumanization. I do not celebrate his death, nor do I celebrate his life. Charlie Kirk was a monster who actively valued guns over children's lives; a man who spent the last decade of his life dedicated to getting a fascist elected so the demographics of the people he hated would suffer, all in the hopes of creating a christian nationalist state. We must not forget who Kirk was. But in remembering his evil actions, we also cannot forget that he was human, and as a human, he did not deserve to have his life taken from him.

But do not for a second think that anyone calling for retribution is justified. "The Left" did not do this, a single person did this. That single person should face justice, not the entirety of your political opposition. Once again, I emphasize the degree to which so many of you have allowed the dehumanization of your political opposition to dictate your attitudes about the very existence of that opposition. We are all humans, for the love of all that is good, please remember that we are all humans.
